The nomination of Brian David White as a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice has been announced by the Attorney-General.
Justice White embarked on his legal career upon being admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2005. The individual commenced their professional journey as an assistant crown attorney, undertaking complex jury cases within the Western and Central Western areas. Significantly, he served as a member of the prosecution team for Project Octagon, a prominent case spanning from 2007 to 2009, involving one of the most extensive instances of mass killings in Canadian history, sometimes referred to as “The Bandidos Massacre,” which has garnered international recognition. Justice White was actively involved in the prosecution of Project Retire, a comprehensive operation that resulted in the apprehension of over 50 individuals who were either members or affiliates of the Outlaws Motorcycle Gang throughout the entire province.
Justice White served as the regional crown counsel specifically assigned to handle the prosecution of individuals deemed to be high-risk criminals. From 2013 forward, he assumed the role of regional crown counsel for a period of seven years. Furthermore, he has served as the crown counsel for the director of crown operations in the Western region during the course of the previous three years. In their capacity as crown counsel, Justice White rendered legal advise to crown attorneys. During the course of his legal profession, he served as the regional authority on matters pertaining to impaired driving prosecutions, applications for dangerous offender status, and the utilization of technology in the context of litigation.
In 2004, he obtained his law degree from the University of Western Ontario, where he was honored with the David C. Scott Memorial Award in recognition of his exceptional academic performance and significant contributions.
Justice White has been a member of the Ontario Justice Education Network for more than ten years. In addition to his notable legal achievements, Justice White demonstrated a commitment to community engagement by actively participating in the Mount Brydges Lions Club, assuming an executive position in 2022. In recognition of his unwavering commitment to community service in the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex region, he was bestowed with the prestigious Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in the year 2022.
The presiding authority in London has been chosen by Chief Justice Sharon Nicklas as Justice White. He will assume his new position commencing on August 31st.
